About vermont breaking

Vermont Breaking is a growing hub for breaking classes, workshops, events, and community across the state.

It is not a single studio or school. Instead, the goal is to make it easier for students, families, dancers, teachers, and organizers to find one another—and to support the people already teaching and building breaking culture in Vermont.

Breaking opportunities here can be scattered and surprisingly difficult to find. Vermont Breaking was created to give those classes and events a visible home, connect interested students with local instructors, and help new opportunities develop in parts of the state where regular classes do not yet exist.

who’s behind it

Vermont Breaking was founded by Calvin Walker, a dancer, teacher, choreographer, and founding member of the Rhythm Riderz crew.

Calvin has taught breaking and movement throughout New England for more than twenty years and currently serves as the Executive Director of The Junction Dance Festival. His work has included youth classes, community workshops, performances, choreography, and arts leadership.

More Than Moves

Breaking is an art form and culture rooted in hip-hop. It develops rhythm, strength, coordination, creativity, musicality, confidence, and individual style—but it is also built around community, exchange, and respect.

Vermont Breaking aims to support that culture by helping people find classes, workshops, cyphers, performances, and events led by local teachers, studios, crews, and organizers.
